GENERAL INFORMATION
- All bins to be presented on collection day by 7.00 am.
- Bins should be located at the edge of your property next to the road and be visible from the road for vehicles travelling in both directions (this will allow the driver to spot the bin).
- Bins should not be overfilled i.e. the lids should be able to close.
- The bin hire period is 2nd April to 1st April the following year. Members joining after 2nd April will receive a service from when they receive the bin, until 1st April the following year.
- The bin remains the responsibility of the member during the hire period.
- Any brown bins left for collection that are contaminated with anything other than items defined as green waste will be collected by the refuse crews the following week and a charge of £35.00 + V.A.T. will be made to the member to cover the additional cost of collection and disposal to landfill.
When will my bin be collected?
- Your collection day will be confirmed when your bin is delivered with an introductory letter.
What can I put in my brown bin?
- Garden waste, comprising waste such as leaves, grass cuttings, hedge and tree cuttings, and similar materials (this excludes kitchen waste and any animal-derived matter).
- Any woody material exceeding 50mm/2” in diameter will not be accepted by the scheme. Inert waste, such as soil, hardcore, bricks, concrete etc will not be accepted.
Does this scheme accept eggshells, teabags, and peelings?
- No kitchen waste can be accepted due to Government Regulations. Please refer to the terms and conditions section.
How much does the bin hold?
- The 240litres bin will would hold the equivalent of 6 bags (Please place green waste loose in bin)
Does my waste need to be in sacks?
- No. It must be loose inside the bin.
If I have more waste than fits in the brown bin, can I leave it out beside my bin for collection?
- No. All waste must be contained in the bin with the lid shut. Any side waste will be left behind.
I only have a small garden is there a smaller container?
- Smaller 140litre bin may be available, the cost for the service however is the same.
- This bin will hold 2 -3 bags worth and takes up minimally less space.
I only produce a small amount of garden waste, how should I recycle it?
- Perhaps consider a compact home ‘composter’
- Share a container with a neighbour.
- Green waste can still be taken to recycling sites across the District.
Why wasn’t my bin collected?
- Bins need to be at the kerbside, visible from the road by 7.00 am on the day of collection. Bins that are not presented will not be emptied. Bins that are contaminated will not be emptied.
My bin was out, at the kerbside, and it was not contaminated. Why wasn’t it collected?
- Please call the number given on your welcome pack to report a bin that has not been emptied by 3pm the following working day.
I joined the scheme after it started. How many collections will I get?
- You will receive a collection service from the date the bin is delivered until 1st April the following year. Charges will not be adjusted.
