- The hire period of the brown bin is from 1st March to 28th February; members joining after the 1st March will receive the service until the next 28th February.
- Brown Bins can only be delivered. Customers are not permitted to collect them.
- The Brown Bin remains the property of Verdant Group Plc.
- The householder is responsible for the safe use of the brown bin and Verdant “will accept no liability for injury due to improper use”.
- The householder will be charged a £20 + V.A.T. fee to replace a stolen or damaged brown bin (unless damaged by Verdant).
- 6. If you move property within the Arun District, you can transfer the bin. You need to notify Verdant of any change of address. If you move out of the Arun District, the balance of the annual fee is non-refundable..
- Should the service not be renewed by the resident, a collection fee of £10 + V.A.T. will be charged.
- The resident must ensure that the brown bin is left at the curtilage of the property (part of the property nearest and adjacent to the public highway) or collection point agreed by the supervisor, by 7.00 am on the designated day of collection. The brown bin must be clearly visible.
- Verdant reserves the right to change the collection day but will notify residents in advance.
- The brown bin must be able to be safely manoeuvred by staff and be capable of being lifted safely by the vehicle. The driver’s decision in respect of safe operations will be final, subject to review by a supervisor.
- Ensure that all materials placed in the brown bin comply with the guidelines on what should and should not be collected, as indicated below.
- Accept “Compostable waste” – any material that is suitable for open windrow composting including plant stems, leaves and stalks. Compostable waste must be free from any other form of contamination unless agreed in writing (e.g. synthetic twine).
- Accept “Green waste” – botanical waste consisting of grass cuttings, hedge clippings, prunings, leaves (excluding street sweepings), wood chippings, timber (excluding painted or treated timber) unless exceeding 100mm/4” in diameter, logs, dead plant material or roots.
- c. Not accepted - kitchen waste or genetically-modified waste.
- Ensure that all waste placed in the brown bin is left loose and not contained in bags of any kind.
- Ensure that the lid of the brown bin is closed. Any waste not presented in the brown bin will not be collected.
- If the green waste is contaminated, a one-off payment of £35 + V.A.T. will be charged to empty the contaminated waste from the brown bin.
- Verdant reserves the right to amend the acceptance criteria at any time.
- Bank Holidays: The Green Waste service will roll forward one day, for example; Monday will be collected on a Tuesday.
- The service will be suspended for a period of two weeks over Christmas. Details will be advertised in the local press.
The brown bin will not be collected if any of the above conditions are not met. If for any other reason, the green waste is not collected, the affected member must notify the Verdant office on 01903 734520 by 3.00 pm of the next working weekday. After this time, we will assume that you, the member, does not require a collection and the waste will be collected on the next scheduled day of collection, not before.
